How often should running shoes and insoles be replaced?

2 minute read · BrightPath Academy

Cushioning and support break down gradually, so the change is easy to miss until something starts to ache.

Running and walking shoes

Many runners replace shoes somewhere around 500 to 800 kilometres, but the right point depends on body weight, surface, running style and the shoe itself. Watch for compressed or creased midsoles, worn outsoles and new aches after runs.

Insoles

Insoles flatten and lose support with daily use. Check them regularly: if the arch area has flattened, the top cover is worn through or the comfort has faded, it is time to review them.

A simple check

Put the old pair next to a new one and compare how they look and feel when walking. Customers usually notice the difference immediately, which makes this a helpful, pressure-free conversation.
